Horned Imp Tobacciana
This antique gilt bronze cigar / match holder, likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century (circa 1880–1910), originates from Europe—possibly Austria or France—where figural novelty tobacciana pieces were popular during the Victorian/Edwardian eras.
The whimsical design features a small, horned imp or devilish boy figure, scantily clad in shorts, with cloven hooves and a tail. He is posed among foliage and leaf forms at the base, one arm raised holding a strap to a tall, rectangular hinged box behind him. This playful "Lucifer" motif reflects era humor tying matches ("Lucifers") to the devil.
