"Maiden with Cherubs"
Exquisite Austrian porcelain figural mantel clock, likely manufactured between 1890 and 1910 after Karl Ens (1802–1865) who was a prominent German porcelain painter and a key figure in the history of Thuringian porcelain. The clock features an Art Nouveau "Jugendstil" (Youth Style) aesthetic, characterized by a tall, sculptural form decorated with high-relief figures of a woman and multiple cherubs (cupids) floating among clouds. The porcelain is finished with a distinctive blue/green and pink glaze.
Because this clock is battery-operated, it uses a modern quartz movement instead of the original mechanical wind-up mechanism from 1896. It is common for antique porcelain clocks to be converted to battery power when the original mechanical parts become too costly to replace or difficult to repair.
