French Bracket Clock
This Boulle marquetry bracket clock and matching wall bracket are exquisite examples of French craftsmanship, likely originating from Paris during the mid-18th century Louis XV period (circa 1740–1760), with many high-quality revivals produced in the 19th century. Notable artists associated with this style include Causard, Lieutaud, and Brezagez.
The clock features a distinctive waisted case meticulously inlaid with Boulle marquetry—a refined technique of veneering brass against a tortoiseshell. It is heavily adorned with ornate ormolu (gilt bronze) mounts, depicting foliate scrolls. The dial showcases individual enamel cartouches with Roman numerals, set within a finely chased gilt-metal center.
