Garçon Jardinier
Manufactured in France during the mid-to-late 19th century (circa 1855–1870), this exquisite French ormolu and marble mantel clock is a hallmark of Parisian craftsmanship. These clocks commonly contain high-quality 19th-century mechanical movements. The clock has a white enamel face with Roman numerals and winding points for the mechanism, and is marked "Le Cartier, A Paris".
The timepiece features a stunning a pastoral or "life scene", a young boy pushing a wheelbarrow rendered in gilt bronze. The figure rests upon an ornate base of white or rouge marble, lavishly decorated with gilt-bronze (ormolu) floral garlands, armorial plaques, and scrollwork. This opulent ensemble epitomizes the neoclassical elegance and mechanical precision of 19th-century French decorative arts.
