French Lion Clock
Impressive French bronze lion mantel clock, manufactured in the late 19th or early 20th century (circa 1880), is a classic example of the French School's "animalier" style. Originating from France, the movement is frequently attributed to the Societe Clusienne S.C.A.P.H. of Cluses.
The centerpiece features a patinated bronze roaring lion poised atop a naturalistic rocky base that cleverly integrates the clock face and a coiled snake figure. The entire sculpture is mounted on a substantial black marble plinth. This timepiece combines predatory drama with exquisite European horological craftsmanship and is quite the statement piece.
