Mystery Maidens Clock
Manufactured in France or the United States during the late 19th century (circa 1890), this swinging mystery clock is a masterpiece of Victorian-era horology. Iconic models like "Brise d'Automne" were sculpted by the renowned French artist Auguste Moreau, while the Ansonia Clock Company produced distinguished American versions.
The design features two elegantly draped, patinated metal maidens—holding a bronzed sphere aloft. The "mystery" is created by a compound pendulum hidden within the sphere, which swings harmoniously to actuate the internal eight-day movement without visible gears. Set upon an ornate base, this timepiece epitomizes the late 19th-century fusion of fine art and mechanical ingenuity.
