Gambrinus
The Symphonion No. 25 GS "Gambrinus" is a rare, figural disc music box manufactured in Leipzig, Germany, during the late 19th century (circa 1895). This striking "Music-Automat" was created by Symphonion AG, a pioneer in disc-playing mechanisms.
The centerpiece is a hand-painted figure of Gambrinus, the legendary "King of Beer," seated atop a large barrel with a raised glass. Inside the barrel lies a sophisticated 84-tooth mechanism designed to play 11.75-inch (30cm) interchangeable metal discs. Originally intended for pubs, these coin-operated marvels combined mechanical artistry with a celebratory icon of brewing culture.
