Courting Couple Box
A Fine Sèvres-Style Cobalt Blue Porcelain Casket from the late 19th Century, France. This exquisite rectangular jewelry box, crafted in the esteemed Sèvres style, features a deep bleu du roi ground. The lid is centered by a finely hand-painted pastoral courting scene depicting a couple in a lush, romantic landscape.
This central medallion is framed by an intricate, raised gold scrollwork border. The sides are similarly adorned with delicate gilt floral sprays and flourishes. Finished with a hinged brass mount, this piece exemplifies the "Romantic" revival style popular in late 19th-century French porcelain. On the bottom is a mark from the "Chateau des Étoiles" (Castle of the Stars) series, possibly from the Sèvres factory or a similar 19th-century French producer. The mark includes the initials "LS" and a crown above the text.
