Swiss Music Box
This Swiss cylinder music box was manufactured in Switzerland during the late 19th century, typically between the 1880s and 1890s. These items were a prominent "cottage" industry in Switzerland during the 19th century, particularly in Geneva and Ste. Croix.
The instrument is housed in a hand-crafted wooden cabinet, featuring intricate rosewood or mahogany inlays. The lid features a subtle floral inlay. Its sophisticated internal mechanism uses a revolving brass cylinder covered in thousands of tiny pins that precisely pluck the teeth of a tuned steel comb to produce music.
